I would like to start this month’s update as I finished Octobers, with some top performances from Branston Members.
A Branston ladies team, led by Di Horsley have been competing all year for the Taskers inter club Trophy, they managed to get all the way to the final winning 7 matches along the way. In the final they came up against Whittington Heath GC and came out victorious, to lift the Burtoft Trophy, a fantastic achievement I’m sure you’ll all agree. I would like to congratulate all the ladies involved throughout the year,
Di Horsley (Capt), Penny Small, Carol Alford, Jane Winn, Chris Pettit, Deslie Smith, Margaret Wright, Mandy Belcher, Sue Bateman, Jenny Hollis, Lynn Woolley.
And not forgetting all the caddies and helpers who were also involved!
Later on in October, Andy and Tom Alford travelled to San Roque, Spain to compete in the European Father & Son Championship, they came through some tough competition, including James & Phil Bailey to win the Trophy, so again Congratulations on a fabulous achievement!
November will see a big step forward for us as a club as we see our new membership system ESP Elite go live. This will take place on Wednesday 22nd November. This will be a huge step forward for the club and will see the introduction of online booking for tee times as part of a member portal which will also enable members to update lodgement balances and communicate with other members.
A letter and FAQ document will be sent out in the coming days and we will be holding open days before the go live date so members can become equated with the system.
Here at Branston we have now moved to full winter rules until the end of the Winter and as in previous years we will alternate a 1st and 10th tee start on a weekly basis. This helps to spread the wear on the course equally when groups are only playing 9 holes. Temporary greens will also be used when needed throughout this period.
Maintenance week went very well with all proposed work completed and the greens are recovering well. For those of you who haven’t seen it, here is the video we produced of the work carried out by Gavin and his team.
Check out our video on youtube. Subscribe to keep up to date with everything at Branston.
In the coming weeks we will rope off the tees as they will be Verti drained and hollow cored. We have already fertilised all tees and this week the greens have been fed with an iron based fertiliser, which strengthens the leaf blade, helping to prevent disease.
The green staff have been busy this month. With the milder conditions, cutting is still taking place alongside ditch clearing on the back nine and clearing the 10th pond of algae.
Leaf clearing is a huge job at this time of year. The leaves have been slow to drop due to the mild conditions, but it is an ongoing job that takes up a lot of the green staff’s time, so your patience around this is appreciated.
As the clocks have now changed both the Lodge and Academy have gone to Winter hours, which I have listed below,
Monday – Friday 7.30am-3pm
Saturday & Sunday – 6.30am-2pm
Monday – Thursday 8am-9pm
Friday – 8am-8pm
Saturday & Sunday – 8am-6pm
I look forward to seeing you all around the club in the coming weeks and also celebrating this year’s winners at the presentation dinner on the 18th November, I’ve heard it is a great night, so I’m looking forward to my first one at Branston!
