Well played, Di

Di Horsley won the Woollett Crystal Cup for ladies over 50 on Sunday, and is pictured with Jenney and Mick Wolllett.

Team Competitions

Please be aware that if you sign up for a pairs or team competition (ladies/gents or mixed) it is important that, if at all possible, you avoid cancelling once the draw has been done.

If for some reason either you or your partner are unable to play, it is still necessary for one of you to play in order to mark the card of the pair you are playing with.

It becomes very difficult to find replacements at short notice and as a result a pair can be left without a marker, or a team short of a player if you cancel at short notice.

Mactier Cup

Louise Manning finished ninth in the Silver Division and Trudie Hanson fourth in the Bronze Division when the Staffordshire Golf Mactier Cup was hosted at Branston last Monday. Congratulations to both.

Tee-time Discipline

Please remember that you are required to be on the tee ten minutes before your tee time. If you are not immediately available to play at your allocated time a two-shot or two-point reduction may be applied to your competition result.

Bank Holiday Whackers

Just another reminder that Whackers will be running on Bank Holiday Monday (August 29th) and there will be a Spot Prize for this day only. There is no fun comp as the Ladies' Committee has decided not to run one this year.

Ladies Inter-Club 25-36 County Shield success

Congratulations to the team of Margaret Wright, Sara Allen, Trudie Hanson, Jane Docksey and Andy Thompson who won their semi-finals match 4 - 1, with some fantastic scores, (Trudie winning 10&8, Sara winning 9&7, Andy winning 6&4 and Margaret winning 5&4), against Druids Heath played at Trentham on Friday, August 19, and are now through to the final to be played at Ingestre Park on Thursday, Sept 29. Good luck, ladies.

Non-return of Scorecards

Please note that it is a CONGU requirement that scorecards are submitted and entered into the computer immediately after the end of a round and a Club sanctions, currently a three competition ban, will be imposed should your card not be returned. This applies to both gents and ladies and please refer to the notices in both the gents' and ladies' locker rooms for more detailed information.

Branston Open (Sept 3)

If anyone would like a copy of either the latest draw or the entry form, please email branstoncaptains2016@gmail.com asking for them and we'll reply with them.

Come Bowling

This year's Bowls Night (with pie and peas!) is on Friday (August 26) from 6pm at Derby Co-op Bowls and Social Club. Directions are on the notice boards in the locker rooms along with the sign-up sheet.

Captains' Charity Ball – September 17 – James Bond Casino Royale

There will be many different James Bond fun and games going on throughout the evening, including:

  • Fun Casino tables (Roulette Wheel, Black Jack, Slot Machines, etc.)
  • Charity auction and raffle
  • Four-course Bond themed evening meal
  • Disco and dancing

Arrive 7pm, carriages at 1am, cost £38 per person, ring 01283 528 336 and book your tickets at the Pavilion. Black tie event, dress to impress/thrill!

Rule of the Week: What happens if you take your shot but your ball hits one of your playing partners' balls, either on the fairway or in the rough?
The good news is that there's no penalty: your partner must drop their ball back where it was when it was struck but you must play your ball as it lies from whenever it ended up.
If you're on the green, however, be very aware: if you are playing in a strokeplay competition and you putt on a green but hit another ball on the green then your playing partner again get to replace their ball BUT you incur a penalty of two shots. Interestingly, if it's matchplay there is no penalty.

Thought for the Week

From Billy Graham (1918-), USA TV evangelist:

"The only time my prayers are never answered is on the golf course."

That's All, Folks!

Have a great week, both on the course and off it.
